Peirce Update

Family and School/Teacher Communication
A reminder from our Family Handbook about family/school/teacher communication. We are here to work in collaboration with families. I also encourage families to reach out directly to school staff whenever there are questions related to school procedures, protocols, classroom happenings, etc.
Classroom teachers are the primary point of contact in supporting students' academic and social development.
We ask that families make individual appointments with teachers if there are any questions or concerns regarding a child’s academic or social progress throughout the year. This includes any questions related to curriculum and instruction. Teachers are unable to respond to emails or phone calls during their instructional time with students.
Peirce teachers send out classroom newsletters or announcements and many communicate information to families via classroom websites or blogspots.
If you are unsure who to contact regarding a situation, please refer to our staff contact list for a description of staff members and the areas they oversee within the school.
If parents/guardians need to schedule a meeting with a Peirce staff member, they can either send an email to the staff member requesting a meeting date/time or call the main office to schedule a meeting. Please allow up to 48 hours response time.
If a response has not been received within 48 hours, reach out to Lynn Carro, lcarro@cps.edu or Sally Suarez de Duran, essuarezdeduran@cps.edu in the main office. There may be times when staff members are out of the building for multiple days, causing a delay in response, Lynn and Sally will know which staff members are available to support the situation presented.
*Families who have worked with the staff member and have additional concerns can reach out to a school administrator for additional support. See the staff contact list for a description of staff members and the areas they oversee within the school.
*Families whose children have been harmed by a staff member should immediately report that incident to a school administrator by phone or email.
*Human resources issues with staff members fall under the management of the school principal in collaboration with the Chicago Public Schools Board of Education.
Communication is an essential component of the educational experience. We ask that families remain in constant contact with their child(ren)’s teacher(s), attend all parent conferences, and remain informed of all Peirce activities/events, etc.
While Mr. Jackson is out & School Incident Reporting
Mr. Jackson is taking a short term leave of absence (4-6 weeks) to care for his son who will have major surgery the week of March 20th. Please keep Mr. Jackson and his family in your thoughts during this time.
While Mr. Jackson is out, Liv Fonte will be supporting school wide culture and climate in collaboration with Principal Zaimi. Liv is a Peirce Parent, Peirce Graduate and has been supporting the lunch/recess team for the past year. I am thankful to have a talented group of team members who are able to step into positions of leadership when called upon. Liv's email is ljfonte@cps.edu.
We will be taking a team approach to help keep our systems of support in place. Please feel free to reach out to any school administrator with any questions/concerns during Mr. Jackson's absence.
Incident Reporting
Peirce School works to provide an equitable, inclusive, safe, supportive, and secure learning and working environment that is free from discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, and retaliation, ensuring that all students, faculty, staff, vendors, and visitors can thrive.
This form is a tool for students, families, staff and community members to report incidents of harm in our school community. Information collected will help us identify issues, develop a plan of support, plan of action and improve steps we are taking to encourage self advocacy.
If you do not feel comfortable sharing your information in this form, please reach out to any member of our staff/school community so that we can respond to the concern you have.
Lets continue to work together to make this community safe for all of our stakeholders.
